Smit in Beeld laat het werk zien van Jan en Mart Smit, vader en zoon. Jarenlang waren zij actief in de natuurfotografie. Startend met kleinschalige fotoworkshops en cursussen is in 2005 Smit in Beeld ontstaan. Het aanbod is inmiddels verder uitgebreid met internationale fotoreizen, presentaties in binnen- en buitenland, en een diverse fotocollectie. Beide heren van Smit in Beeld zijn succesvol geweest in toonaangevende fotowedstrijden als: Wildlife Photographer of the Year, European Photographer of the Year, Lowlands en de Groene Camera. Jan is op 6 april 2026 overleden. Tot op de dag dat hij is overleden was hij met fotografie bezig en zijn foto’s zullen altijd getoond blijven worden. De website zal blijven bestaan om de beelden van Jan en Mart te blijven tonen. Mart, inmiddels niet meer actief als fotograaf, zal het archief van Smit in Beeld blijven beheren.

Met veel verdriet hebben we op 6 april 2026 afscheid moeten nemen van onze Jan. Na gestreden te hebben bleek de ziekte niet te remmen en werden we allemaal ingehaald door de tijd. Langer de tijd om afscheid te nemen was er niet. Op 6 april 2026 is Jan is thuis overleden in het bijzijn van zijn dierbare. Hij heeft in de afgelopen periode veel steun gehad van zijn naasten, maar ook verdere familie, vrienden en kennissen met berichten en veel lieve kaarten. Hier blijkt wel uit wat een geliefd mens hij was. De herinneringen aan hem zullen we koesteren en helpen ons door deze moeilijke tijd.
Aan Zee: De dynamiek van het Hollandse strand
Op het strand waar de Noordzee overgaat naar land, spoelt van alles aan. Schelpen, zeedieren, en een heleboel zand dat via rivieren in zee stroomt. Dit zand vindt zijn plek langs onze hele westkust, waar het als een grote zandvlakte het Noordzeestrand vormt. Wind en golven zijn de dynamische kunstenaars van zandsculpturen en –structuren. Ondanks de druk van recreatie, zandsuppleties en afval blijven natuurlijke elementen het strand vormgeven.

Last week, the day after the storm I walked around on the Hors, Texel. Not much to find on the beach but beautiful structures. Perhaps the light was no longer the most beautiful when I was there, but it was a wonderful day to "just be" there. The splashes are caused by chunks of sand falling into the water

This past week I had some time and really wanted to go to the beach. The weather was quite challenging. Long periods of dense cloud cover, but occasionally variable cloud cover with hail showers and, as here, a little light at the very end of the day.

Dead Seal
Yesterday towards the end of the day I went to the beach. On the beach this dead seal.
I have no idea what the cause is, but it was a sad sight. Should I take a picture of it or not? Finally I photograph the seal in a nice, dignified way.

Still working on a new presentation for the Museon in The Hague. This image will also be part of this presentation. An image from 2008! An attempt by us to showa pine marten in its biotope. It was quite a puzzle and hassle to achieve this with a motion detector of an outdoor lamp.

As a photographer with a preference for the coast, I try to photograph there as much as possible. When a comet passes by, I couldn`t resist giving it a try. On the days when the comet was a bit brighter, I had obligations or it was cloudy. In recent days I managed to capture him.
